* Lodewijk Crijns – Lap Rouge / Kutzooi

Posted on octobre 14th, 2010 by YATS. Filed under A Film A Day.

I just get into Lodewijk Crijns’ work, following the advice of a StripTease (franco-belgian documentary series) fan.
These films are really hard to find, as they had never been released. They have only been broadcasted on dutch TV, and later in france.

Here is the synopsis for Lap rouge (Thanks to Imdb):
The camera pursues the life of two Dutch brothers, Herman and Egbert over the course of several months. Their mother wanted to disassociate herself from the petty bourgeois atmosphere in Holland during the fifties. In 1959 she took her two boys and left for Marnhac, a deserted village in southern France. After living in France for the the next 35 years both brothers have become almost fully alienated from society. They don’t have the courage to leave their very aged and dominant mother.

And here is Kutzooi, a later film from Crijns:

* The Final Programme, Robert Fuest (1973)

This one is great, and so underrated.
Outside the US, it’s titled The Last Days Of Man On Earth (French title Les décimales du futur), and subtitled The Future Is Cancelled. Sounds great…
Great director, great cast great story. I don’t know what went wrong with this film. Maybe it seemed too close to the TV Series The Avengers and Doctor Who. To be fair, I must admit that it’s quite a slapdash film, unlike Fuest’s previous films. The original novel by Michael Moorcock really deserves a better adaptation.
It’s edited in France by Studio Canal under the label Les Films Inclassables (Unclassifiable Films). Try to find it, it’s worth seein.

* Chocolate Box meets SF

Posted on décembre 1st, 2009 by YATS. Filed under Non classé.

Just found at my local bookstore a classic edition of Herbert’s masterwork Dune, which will complete my collection of SF classics and random pieces from the 70’s published under the label Ailleurs & Demain.

Chocolate box cover. The future in your hand.
